It's like being a teacher - your contract is not renewed. You can get fired, but first you get administrative leave and it generally involves a major crime - like drugs or sex with a minor. You know, lawyers please apply here kind of a thing.
Huh, hadn't thought of that! But, you're absolutely right!
That's exactly how I punish my children when they misbehave.
I hope you aren't speaking from personal experience! Although I must say, not having your privileges renewed sounds a lot nicer than being fired.
Personal experience, but lucky for us, Doc H is on the Donald Trump side of the table... if you know what I mean. ;)
Oh, I want to know more! I guess that means we don't have to worry about being fired, we only have to worry about not having a place to go to work. I don't see the difference.
Not much difference really.
Wish this was true for accountants. Sounds much better in your next job interview. Can't wait for a longer post on what you guys are going through!
I'll write about it when I can. I have already in earlier posts. This has been brewing for a long, long time.
Well this is reassuring. At least after its all over I can sleep at night knowing he can't get fired. I guess that makes it worth it because I agree...non-renewed privileges sounds a heck of a lot better!
Oh, NO! He CAN still get fired. If he does it will most likely include the necessity of a medical malpractice defense attorney. So, let's not go there. It's not a happy place. :/
There were two residents that got fired during the hub's residency. It was the same kind of thing with one... he was simply not asked back for PGY2. The other... well, he was for sure FIRED, but that is a whole story in itself. There was also an attending that got fired on the spot for having um, relations with another member of the staff in the hospital. They don't tolerate any kind of crap here....
